What makes golf shorts comfortable for a whole round
Comfortable golf shorts come down to three things working together: how the fabric moves with you, how it handles heat and moisture, and how the fit sits around the waist and thighs when you walk and swing for hours. A round of 18 holes often means four to five hours of walking, repeated bending at tee and green, and a full rotation on every swing. Shorts that pull across the thighs or pinch at the waist when you sit down in the golf cart are noticeable after a couple of holes, but become obvious by the eighteenth.

The single most important property for comfort during a golf swing is stretch. A golf swing requires the hips, core and legs to rotate at the same time, and a fabric without elasticity restricts that movement in exactly the wrong place: across the backside, thighs and crotch. Modern golf shorts therefore often weave in a small proportion of elastane (spandex/lycra) into polyester or nylon, which provides four-way stretch, meaning the fabric stretches both lengthwise and crosswise.
The effect is tangible. You can take a wider lunge at a ball on a slope, crouch down to read a putt and move into the top of the backswing without the fabric holding you back. The length of golf shorts affects both comfort and how they look. A common rule of thumb is that the hem should end just above the knee, roughly mid-thigh to just above the kneecap. Too short takes away both movement and the polished look golf tends to want, too long flaps and feels clumsy in the swing. Inseam lengths of around 18 to 23 cm (often stated as 7 to 9 inches in international sizes) are the range most people move within.
The fit should be accommodating without being tight. A slightly tapered cut stays out of the way around the knee without pulling across the thigh. A waistband with a little built-in stretch or elastic at the sides means the shorts stay put as you walk and bend, without you having to pull them up all the time. Cargo pockets or a cleaner tech cut
The pockets determine how much you can carry without having to run to your bag. A cargo model with a thigh pocket holds tees, a ball and a rangefinder right on your leg, which many appreciate during a round where you walk. Check the club's dress code before you choose shorts
Most Swedish golf clubs allow shorts, but the rules vary between courses and it is worth knowing before you book. Some clubs have requirements on length or that socks must be white or plain to go with shorts, others have periods or courses where long trousers are mandatory. A course-approved model with a collar on the top and shorts of a dress rather than swim character is almost always enough.
